Best photos for colorizing
The Colorize Photo tool is meant for black and white portraits, family scans, old documents with people, and grayscale images where the subject is still easy to see. Clean scans with balanced lighting usually produce a more believable color preview than tiny, noisy, or heavily compressed files.
Use the strength control conservatively. Lower values keep more of the original black-and-white character, while higher values create a stronger color effect that can look more modern but less historically accurate. For faded or scratched photos, try Restore Old Photos first and then colorize the improved copy.
Review before sharing
Automatic colorization is an interpretation, not proof of the real colors in the original scene. Skin tones, clothing, uniforms, vehicles, and backgrounds may need manual correction in a dedicated editor. Compare the before and after view, look for color bleeding around faces and edges, and keep the original file unchanged.
Processing happens from the image you choose in the browser preview. Export the PNG only after checking important details such as eyes, hands, logos, and text areas. For a black-and-white version of a color image, use the Grayscale Image Converter instead.
