Images that OCR can read well
Image to Text OCR works best with screenshots, scans, receipts, labels, book pages, and photos where the text is straight, sharp, and well lit. High contrast between letters and background is more important than a decorative photo. If the image is too dark or noisy, edit the contrast before running OCR.
For PDFs, first convert the relevant page with PDF to JPG, then upload the image here. For charts or tables captured as screenshots, extract the visible labels and numbers, then build a clean visual with the Chart Maker.
Review the extracted text
OCR output should always be checked before using it in invoices, citations, applications, or published content. Similar characters such as 0 and O, 1 and l, or rn and m can be misread. Line breaks and punctuation may also need cleanup after extraction.
The tool loads OCR support only when you start extraction, which keeps the page lighter during normal browsing. The result can be copied, edited, or downloaded as a text file. For long extracted passages, use the Word Counter to check length or the Text Summarizer to create a shorter draft.
Improve OCR accuracy
Before extracting text, crop away borders, photos, and page areas that do not contain useful writing. OCR engines perform better when the text fills the image and runs horizontally. A straight screenshot from a PDF or web page usually produces cleaner output than an angled phone photo of the same text.
For tables, preserve row spacing and column labels in the image before running OCR, then check the copied result line by line. Numbers, dates, email addresses, and product codes deserve extra attention because one wrong character can change the meaning of the extracted text.
